BMW 5 SERIES Recall

Unintentional deployment of airbag

BMW 5 SERIES recall Nov 2003BMW announced a problem with the 5 SERIES affecting a total of 8,176 vehicles.

A possible fault in the microprocessor in the air bag control unit could lead to an uncontrolled setting of the output signals from the control unit immediately after switching on the ignition. In unfavourable conditions this may lead to components of the safety and restraint system being triggered. This fault does not affect the vehicle while the car is being driven. Vehicles built from 01/01/2001 to 08/31/2001 are at risk.

The following remedial action is necessary to address this problem. Recall affected vehicles and replace and code the air bag control unit.

If you think that your vehicle may be affected by this recall you should find your nearest BMW dealer who will be able to confirm whether or not your car is safe and arrange its free repair if necessary.
