TOYOTA announced a problem with the 4RUNNER affecting a total of 1,690 vehicles.
If the steering wheel is repeatedly turned under conditions where high steering effort is required, such as when fully turning the steering wheel whilst the vehicle is stationary, a fatigue crack may develop in the relay rod. In extreme cases the steering rod may fracture causing a loss of steering control. Vehicles built from 04/16/1993 to 03/08/1995 are at risk.
The following remedial action is necessary to address this problem. Recall the likely to be affected vehicles and replace the steering relay rod.
Vehicles with the following identification numbers are affected:
JT111VND##9016646 to JT111VND##9019280 JT111GND##8000002 to JT111GND##8009616
