MITSUBISHI announced a problem with the Lancer Evo IV and V affecting a total of 196 vehicles.
The "Active Yaw Control ECU" may be incorrectly programmed which may cause the clutches in the torque transfer differential to remain disengaged when the engine starts. This could result in damage to the rear axle differential. Vehicles built from 12/20/1996 to 07/17/1998 are at risk.
The following remedial action is necessary to address this problem. Recall potentially affected vehicles and replace the Electronic Control Unit (ECU).
