HONDA announced a problem with the Civic 3/5 door affecting a total of 889 vehicles.
On affected vehicles, the handbrake ratchet tooth dimensions are incorrect resulting in a mismatch and incorrect engagement between pawl and ratchet teeth. Consequently, the handbrake lever may disengage Vehicles built from 8/17/2009 to 8/20/2009 are at risk.
The following remedial action is necessary to address this problem. Recall affected vehicles, check date stamp on lever and if marked 200709, replace handbrake lever
