TOYOTA announced a problem with the PRIUS affecting a total of 1,262 vehicles.
The nut that secures the pinion to the electric power steering system motor shaft may become loose if excessive force is used in full lock manoeuvrers. This could, in extreme cases, have an affect on the steering operation. Vehicles built from 25/1/2000 to 20/5/2003 are at risk.
The following remedial action is necessary to address this problem. Recall all affected vehicles for the replacement of the securing nut.
