KIA announced a problem with the SPORTAGE XS affecting a total of 974 vehicles.
Due to incorrect logic in the electronic stability programme (ESP)control unit the possibility exists that the brakes may suddenly apply. Vehicles built from 02/17/2004 to 02/26/2005 are at risk.
The following remedial action is necessary to address this problem. Recall likely to be affected vehicles and re-programme the ESP control unit

find your nearest KIA dealer
who will be able to confirm whether or not your car is safe and arrange its free repair if necessary.
