Power steering pipe may chafe on alternator terminals

JAGUAR XJ8 recall Aug 2003JAGUAR announced a problem with the XJ8 affecting a total of 16,303 vehicles.

The power steering rack to oil cooler pipe may chafe on the alternator cable terminal. This could cause an electrical short circuit and risk of fire in the facia trim above the driver's footwell also an oil leak and loss of power assistance to the steering. Vehicles built from 10/01/1997 to 06/30/2000 are at risk.

The following remedial action is necessary to address this problem. Check the proximity of the power steering pipe to the alternator terminal. Cable tie the oil pipe clear of the alternator where appropriate, replace any damaged pipes and alternator components. Fit a new alternator where found necessary.
