Engine cooling fan may fail.

BMW E39 - 5 Series 6 Cyl. Petrol Engine recall Jan 2002BMW announced a problem with the E39 - 5 Series 6 Cyl. Petrol Engine affecting a total of 7,500 vehicles.

Manufacturing faults and software errors in the electronics of the electric fan could cause these components to be thermally overloaded and destroyed. In isolated cases the overloading could lead to scorching or a fire in the fan. Vehicles built from 01/05/2001 to 08/31/2001 are at risk.

The following remedial action is necessary to address this problem. Recall affected vehicles and check the fan type and build. Replace the fan where necessary.
