BMW E34 Touring Recall

Steering lock may inadvertently engage

BMW E34 Touring recall Dec 2006BMW announced a problem with the E34 Touring affecting a total of 2,222 vehicles.

The control cam of the steering lock may break. This is most likely to occur as the vehicle is started or parked. However, the possibility of this occurring whilst the vehicle is in motion cannot be ruled out. In this event the steering lock could engage with the effect that it would no longer be possible to steer the vehicle. Vehicles built from 11/01/1995 to 11/01/1996 are at risk.

The following remedial action is necessary to address this problem. Recall affected vehicles, check manufacturer of lock and if necessary replace steering lock.

If you think that your vehicle may be affected by this recall you should find your nearest BMW dealer who will be able to confirm whether or not your car is safe and arrange its free repair if necessary.
