Honda Jazz Headlights Can Fail

January 2011

Honda announced a problem with the Jazz affecting a total of 136,329 vehicles.

Due to the layout of the lighting switch wiring harness, the low beam headlight circuit can be pulled tighter than other wires. After repeated use of the headlight switch, the low beam terminal can become worn and poor electrical continuity may result from an accumulation of copper oxide. In some cases the poor continuity or melted terminal ends will cause the wiring harness terminal ends to melt. This will cause the low beam head lights to become inoperative, increasing the risk of accident.

Vehicles built from 22/10/2001 to 24/7/2008 are at risk.

Problems with BMW Brakes

October 2010

BMW announced a problem with the 5, 6, & 7, Series affecting a total of 10,522 vehicles.

It is possible that engine oil can enter the brake servo, via the brake vacuum pump and vacuum hose. If this occurs, it could damage the brake servo membrane, which may leak, so causing a reduction in braking assistance and a requirement to apply increased pedal force to achieve the same braking efficiency. Vehicles built from 30/10/2001 to 23/11/2009 are at risk.

BMW intend to recall all affected vehicles for the fitment of a modified servo hose. In addition, the checking of the brake servo for contamination and replacement if required.

Is Vauxhall's Lifetime Car Warranty Any Good?

September 2010

Vauxhall recently announced that they are so confident in the quality and reliability of their cars that we are now going to offer a warranty that can last a lifetime. Well, actually up to a maximum of 100,000 miles.

The offer is only open to the car's first owner and after the third year the warranty becomes dependent on an annual visit of the vehicle to a Vauxhall authorised repairer who will activate and validate the warranty extension for another year. In addition, these annual activations must be performed within two weeks of the expiry of the preceding year's check.

In our opinion, this is a welcome move but only of benefit to drivers who are considering the purchase of a brand new Vauxhall and are also prepared to keep it for several years, without missing an annual check.

Car warranties are an excellent way of protecting yourself from unexpected repair costs. However, it is also important to make sure that you have not missed out on any manufacturer saftey recalls. Our car recalls news will help you keep up-to-date with the latest safety issues as well check for recalls on any vehicles that you are thinking of buying.
