Are Car Warranties Worth It? About Car Warranties Car Warranty Checklist Car Warranty Score Card About Warranty Guide Car Warranty Links warrantyguide.co.uk

A car warranty is also known as Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI). It is important to note that MBI is an insurance policy and not a guarantee.

Various types of protection are available including Manufacturer used warranties, Independent Dealer Warranties, and Tailored Personal (or After Market) Warranties. You can purchase the latter at any time during a car's life.

Warranties typically last between 1 month and 5 years. Most 12-month policies are renewable like any other form of insurance. Dealers often bundle in 3 months' cover with the sale of a used car but this is accounted for by a higher sticker price.

Look carefully at what is covered. Use our Checklist and Scorecard to find out whether you are really getting the level of cover that you need, then go to our Car Warranty Links page to check out deals from the major providers.
